This mama is SICK!

First of all, thanks for all the replies yesterday! For the record, I'm not under any delusions that Elliot will or should sleep through the night anytime soon. But 3 hour stretches (like he did in the NICU!) are a whole lot easier than the measly one hour naps he takes all night long nowadays. I was just curious to see what has helped all the other blogging mamas :)
Secondly- I AM SICK!!!. Really sick. I have some sort of stomach virus/flu. Let me tell you- it's tough being this sick with an infant to take care of! My mom was a big help all day yesterday, but then it was just me dragging myself out of bed every hour to feed Elliot last night. He spent a lot of quality time bonding with the toys on his bouncy seat while Mama was locked in the bathroom, too. I felt bad but there was no other option! I missed Aaron last night more than ever. All the single moms in this world deserve some serious credit!
I'm feeling about 70% better today. Much better than yesterday, but still not well enough to eat or drink anything other than saltine crackers and gingerale.
Be on the lookout for a new blog design and some seriously cute pictures of Elliot discovering his hands! {Hopefully uploaded later, if I'm feeling up to it}

  1. Oh I hope you feel better quickly! Being a mom and being sick is seriously one of the roughest things to go through. <3

  3. hope you're feeling better soon! the worst thing about being a mama is being sick, because you're still expected to be a mama!

    when my youngest son was two weeks old i got the flu. since my husband had already taken off of work so much because of the new baby and the fact that we had just moved houses, he wasn't able to ask off from work to stay home with us. so i had to take care of myself, my three year old, AND attempt to breastfeed and take care of a newborn. those couple of days are still a blur. :)

    like i said, get well soon!

  4. Oh I totally understand how you feel! My husband and I were BOTH sick with a stomach flu last weekend and were too sick to care for the baby. My parents had to come get her and keep her for the whole weekend! She would have been spending her days locked up in her playpen otherwise. I hope you feel better soon!

  7. Hope you feel better soon! That's awful! Single parents are definitely heroes.

    I wasn't sure whether to offer advice about Elliot waking up at night, but my sister is a nutritionist and recommended a terrific book - "Child of Mine," by Ellyn Satter - as the gold standard in infant and child feeding guidance for parents. (including parents of babies who have had an atypical start with feeding) The sleep and feeding research show that cereal in a bottle does NOT help babies sleep longer. The research indicates that infants shouldn't start solids (like cereal) until they hit certain developmental milestones (like being able to close their lips around a spoon). Many parents start solids too early and get very frustrated when their babies don't eat well; it's better to wait until he's ready and let him lead the way.

    Good luck with the sleepless nights. It's so hard, especially since you're on your own. Best wishes.

  8. Thinking of you and hoping you feel 100% very fast!
    My son (10 months at the time), husband and I all had a BAD flu over New Years and it was horrible. You feel so helpless and a mom's natural instinct is to put herself second.

    Best wishes for a speedy recovery so you can get back to loving cuddles with your babe!!

    ps. I love reading your blog (I just came across it in the past couple weeks).
