a puppy for Elliot...

As I've already mentioned before, Elliot is OBSESSED with dogs. He absolutely adores them, which is good, because Aaron and I love dogs, too! We're planning to get a new puppy once we get settled into our new home in Texas. As much as I love big dogs, I think a smaller dog would fit into our lifestyle much better right now, with all the moving and traveling that we do. My husband really wants a miniature pinscher. At first, I wasn't so sure how they got along with babies and small kids. Well, check THIS out! :)

Cute, right? Maybe I'll have to give this breed more thought! We did play with a few different min pin pups at a pet store a few times, and let me tell you: they have a LOT of energy. Coincidentally, so does Elliot. I think they'd get along just fine ;)

  1. I'd recommend getting a puppy from the animal shelter or from a farm or somewhere that's giving away puppies, rather than a pet store. First of all those puppies really need a home- not to mention, you never know what you're going to get from a pet store, like where they come from, you know? If you do want to buy a pure bred dog, I'd visit an individual breeder.

We have a half lab half beagle puppy, he'll be a year in July. He's seriously the sweetest dog ever. He's so good with my nieces and I have no worries how he'll be with our children someday. He's def. full of energy but a sweetheart! We got him from a lady who's dog had puppies. Didn't pay a dime for him!

  3. I don't know if I'd reccomend a Min Pin. My Grandpa is a veterinarian, so he has LOTS of experience with different dog breeds. He's told me on multiple occasions that the only small dog breed he'd have is a bichon frise.

I agree with the other commenters, though. Shelter pups are a definite go! :)

  4. We actually don't support pet shops that sell puppies or kittens... But we do enjoy going to them to play with the different animals. I don't think we would get a puppy from an animal shelter though because you have no way of knowing the family history... and there is always the chance that you could be getting a puppy with aggressive parents, which makes me nervous since we have Elliot. We had a German shepherd mix pup that we got from a shelter back before I was pregnant, though, and he was great.
We would most likely get a puppy of any breed from a small, reputable breeder.

  5. Great idea! Our dog Pepper is best friends with Julianna! Jules lovvves Pepper and Pepper loves Jules. It's so cute to see them interact. You do just have to oversee them together always b/c you never know what can happen - but it is so wonderful to know Julianna is going to grow up with Pepper (pep is 3). ZGood luck - can't wait to see what you guys end up with! (Just do your research ahead of time - looks like you already did!)

  6. You MUST get a mini dachshund, they are the best!! I got mine a couple years ago, he's all of 6 pounds but is so gentle and loving, cuddlers for sure!
